Read Them If You Know What's Good For You!

A Course In Miracles
A friend of mine describes the course as Christianity before the editors got hold of it. By that he means it's the pure teachings of the enlightened teacher, Jesus, before he was deified by the Catholic church. It's kind of a Zen non-duality teaching in Christian metaphors. What I like most about the course is the structure. It's great following a non-dual path, but without some kind of ego deconstruction techniques you find yourself asleep ALL THE DAMN TIME.

Illusions - Richard Bach
I love this little gem of a book. I read it years ago in an evening whilst very stoned. It had such an influence on me I really thought I was destined to be a Master...the next day! Fortunately my messiah complex didn't last too long and instead I was left with a friend for life.

Quantum Touch: The Power To Heal - Richard Gordon
If you have any interest at all in energy medicine I urge you to read this book. With this book alone you could tap into your inner healer and change the lives of those around you. It's not deeply esoteric or fluffy and New Age, but instead a down to earth systematic process for unleashing the healing ability we all have.

The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge - Carlos Castaneda
There may be some doubt as to the authenticity of this work, but I don't think that's the point. The point is it shatters perceived reality tunnels and opens us up to the possiblilty of the miraculous. I never looked at the world the same after this series of books.

Be As You Are: The Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi - David Godman
My favourite book on the life and teachings of the Indian saint. Maharshi spent his entire life, after his Awakening at 16, living in his Ashram on Aranachula, where he taught through direct transmission or words - whatever the student needed.

I am That: Talks with Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Sri Ng was a real character. A chain smoking father and tobacco shop owner who follwed his guru's teachings with such devotion he Woke Up. Spent the rest of his life teaching non-duality from above his tobacconists.

Quantum Psychology - How Brain Software Programs You and Your World - Robert Anton Wilson
A must read.

Prometheus Rising - Robert Anton Wilson
In which Bob uses his genius to elucidate Leary's 8 circuits or consciousness theory.

Info-Psychology: A Manual on the Use of the Human Nervous System According to the Instructions of the Manufacturers - Timothy Leary
Timothy Leary's extraordinary work on consciousness.

Tao Te Ching: The Book of The Way - Stephen Mitchell Translation
Far and away my favourite translation.

Stranger in a Strange Land - Robert Heinlein

Heinlein's most famous work. Led to outrage and book burning in the bible belt of America, but still incredibly important today.

The Way of Zen - Alan Watts
By far the best introduction to the philosophy of Zen

Winnie-the-Pooh - A.A. Milne
Quite simply my favourite book of all time. Pooh is a wonderful example of Simple Being.

How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?  Four.  Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.  ~Abraham Lincoln
